很多人在做英文簡報時，會遇到一個狀況，那就是用中文邏輯在講英文。這種英文雖然別人也聽得懂，但其實很不自然，而且講錯了也沒人會糾正你。以下是幾個商業人士最常出現、卻很少有自覺的錯誤用法。

Next page, I will introduce…（下一頁，我會介紹）

很多人在簡報翻頁時會說：「Next page, I will introduce our strategy.」這句話文法並沒有錯，但不符合英文的語感。更自然的說法是：

  • On the next slide, I’ll walk you through our strategy.
  • Let me walk you through our strategy.

中文詞的「介紹」用處很廣，但introduce這個字基本上是「把某人或某件事『帶入／引入』到一個新的情境」，例如：

  • 第一次介紹人認識：Let me introduce John to you.（我要把John介紹給你。）
  • 正式把東西帶進來：The company introduced a new product.（公司引進一項新產品。）

前面這句Introduce a strategy，其實是在帶大家理解內容。所以更自然的動詞是：walk you through、go over。

We need more budget（我們需要更多預算）

這句話幾乎每天都會在會議裡出現。問題是英文在談budget時，重點通常會擺在「規模的變化」上，而不是要多一點預算還是少一點預算。用larger這個形容詞，會比直接用more修飾budget更合適。

「我們需要更多預算」這句話更自然的說法是：

  • We need a larger budget for this project. 
  • We need additional budget for this initiative. 

如果你要更精準一點，可以說：

  • We may need to increase the budget. 

記住，使用budget這個字時，你在談的是「調整規模」，而不是「多一點或少一點」。

This part is talking about…（這個部份談到的是⋯）

Talking about這個用法太口語，也很像翻譯中文「在講⋯⋯」，簡報時更常用：

  • This section shows our revenue performance. 
  • This section covers our revenue. 
  • This section highlights our revenue growth. 

The reason is because…（這原因是因為⋯）

錯誤的原因很簡單，那就是reason已具有「原因」之意，接because會造成語意重複，因此，reason和because不可同時出現。替換說法如下：

  • The reason is that demand increased.
  • This is because demand increased.
