你是不是也常說這些話？
「I will follow him tomorrow.」
「Let me follow this email.」
「Did you follow the case?」
我們以為是在表達「我來處理、我來追一下」，但外國同事聽了卻可能感到迷惑，甚至誤會你要「跟蹤」誰，或是完全聽不懂你想表達什麼。
Follow，這個字雖然簡單，但一不小心就會變得很「中式」。
誤區1：Follow不是「跟進處理」
（X）I will follow this tomorrow.
問題：英文裡follow是「跟著某人／某事走」的意思，不代表「主動處理、追蹤進度」。
正確說法：
- I’ll follow up on this tomorrow.（我明天會跟進處理。）
- I’ll look into it and keep you posted.（我會處理看看，有消息會再跟你說。）
誤區2：Follow不是「提醒對方處理」
（X）Just following this.
問題：如果少了up和明確對象，對方會聽不出你想幹嘛。
正確說法：
- Just following up to check if you’ve had a chance to review this.（想跟你確認一下，你有機會看過這份資料了嗎？）
- A quick follow-up on the proposal we sent.（簡單跟你確認一下我們寄出的提案。）
誤區3：Follow someone聽起來像在「跟蹤」
（X）I followed the manager after the meeting.
問題：這句會被解讀成「我跟著經理走出會議室」，而不是你想說的「我有追進度／跟經理對話」。
正確說法：
- I followed up with the manager after the meeting.（會後我有再和經理溝通一下。）
- I checked in with her afterwards.（之後我有再和她聊了一下／確認一下。）
誤區4：Follow不等於「負責某件事」
（X）He is following this project.
問題：外國同事會想：「那他是在旁邊觀察，還是實際負責？」語意不清。
正確說法：
- He’s in charge of the project.（他負責這個專案。）
- He’s handling this project personally.（他親自負責這個計畫。）
少一個up，差一大截
很多科技人、工程師、PM每天都在「follow這、follow那」，但英文裡的follow≠跟進、負責、追進度。
學英文不能只靠習慣翻譯，而要真正掌握「外國人怎麼說」，說得專業，才不會被誤會、失禮或聽起來像菜鳥。
